I wrote this lune 17 years ago and it’s been published and republished many times, most recently in the Norton anthology Haiku in English. It always feels relevant to me, especially now.
P.S. The “lune” is a poetic form, also referred to as an “American haiku,” invented by the great poet Robert Kelly. The syllabic structure is 5/3/5, four syllables shorter than a traditional haiku. Beyond that, there are no rules.
I've not heard of a lune before. This transported me back to a time of comfort. Seeing the TV casting a glow on the back lawn and knowing that my Dad was home. I miss him. Thank you for a stirred memory.
