I had a mild panic when I got a notification that just said "Goodbye." I was relieved it was just an excellent poem and you weren't leaving Substack.

You are not the only one!

That last line! I’ll never look at rain hitting hot asphalt the same way!

Outstanding.

The interplay of the three senses at the end conjures a fourth and you don't have to say "petrichor."

This is lovely and haunting all at once. I'm in the midst of moving so exile and and goodbyes are top of mind. I was halted by: "In exile, the gaps become companions—"

I’m ordering the book. That latest photo is absolutely beautiful. I had the same reaction to “Goodbye.” whew, what a relief you’re not going away.

New subscriber ... perfect start. An appreciation of the ordinary. I was sitting in my suburban backyard the other day, sweating. But so much going on ... birds in the feeders, beautiful Constable clouds, Rosie chasing a squirrel. Ordinary. Wonderful.
