White Hibiscus 
   after Norfolk Island

White hibiscus, 
human mediated,
radiate glass.  

Pristine arch, the
light at noon—
from my balcony.

This, white sand
and another
beauty frame 

the way into
the sea.




Hundred Acres
   after Norfolk Island

Somewhere, where
shadows bend

around the ghost
oak. Great pines

share water
from each lateral tier—

their generosity is immense.
They give

where others would claim
victory for themselves.




Leatherwood

The sign of uncommon
white. Fragrance

gives life to life
of honey fame.

Miniature cities
of tremblant enamel—

where shade reverses
into shade.
