“notice the sun

as it descends, how it sheds

this sacred, deepening red”

Love this. Beautiful.

"In the middle of

the night, all that will suffice

is poetry—to

speak clearly into the dark—

a lantern for company."

Speaks to the practice of listening to my mind more clearly when I awaken at 4 AM in the dark, like I just did. Some mornings it runs calmer than others. Some mornings the poetry is a little chaotic.

I can’t agree with you more about poetry, it has gotten me through many long nights, early mornings, and hard days. You have expressed that sentiment beautifully in this poem.

Beautiful images. The sacred red of a winter sunset ... or dawn, for that matter. The soft flakes "sparking" past the lamplight.

There is so much in these, but I so especially love the description of snow as a veil of "soft sparks".
